A storm you control
The thunder here is made fresh each time: some strikes are distant rolls that rumble for several seconds, a few are sharper and closer, and they come at uneven gaps like a real storm. Rain and wind carry on underneath. Because you set each layer’s level, the storm can be anything from a distant summer rumble to a full downpour.
- For sleep: keep thunder low (under 25) so no single crack wakes you, and lean on rain and brown noise.
- For drama while reading or writing: thunder at 50 to 60 with wind.
- For a cozy evening: add the fireplace.
Why storms relax people
For many, a storm heard from indoors is deeply relaxing: the rain is a steady masking sound 1, the thunder is far enough away to be safe, and the whole thing says stay in. If storms make you anxious instead, plain rain sounds give the same masking without the thunder.
Good to know
Thunder is the one sound in MoodNoise with sudden loud moments, by design. Our limiter keeps peaks under control so a close strike won’t blast through, but if you’re sensitive to sudden sounds or sleeping beside someone who is, keep the thunder slider low.

Questions
Can I turn off the thunder?
Yes: drag the Thunder slider to zero or tap its tile, and you have rain and wind on their own.
Are thunderstorm sounds good for sleep?
Many people love them for sleep. Keep the thunder low so a loud strike doesn’t wake you, and use the sleep timer to fade everything out.
Is it a recording?
No. The rain, wind and thunder are generated in your browser, so every storm is different and there’s no loop.
